John Pic and his brother Jeff came down from Virginia to fish at Headwaters Lake in Fellsmere. This lake is incredible we ended the 3 days with 190 bass all on artificial lures. We caught fish on just about every lure we fished with some lures working better than others. The fishing at this lake will remain great all summer long due to the deeper areas in the lake and the consistent water temps staying lower on average because of these deeper areas. John caught the largest fish of the 3 days on a topwater frog weighing just over 8 1/2lbs. If you are thinking of a fishing trip this summer this is the place to go! Headwaters Lake (Fellsmere Reservoir) has only been open to the public for boats with motors since last Aug. and it is approx. 10,000 acres making it 1/3 larger than Stick Marsh/Farm 13 to the West and Ansin Garcia which is to the South. Given more time this lake is going to continue to produce GIANT Bass. My clients have already caught since Aug. at least 10 fish over 10lbs. and too many to count over 8lbs. and that is only since Aug. This lake may very well be the best fishery in Florida for the time being and depending on the management by SFWMD may stay that way for a very long time.
